Artist Statement January 2016
One way to look at visual art, among many, is to try to consider the artist’s state of mind as the piece was being made, another is to reserve any considerations at all and allow the work to make its own impressions upon you. Some of the most moving visual art to me gathers these two ways of considering and experiencing a piece, here can lie a transcendental moment, a connection of consciousness between people. By striving to align to some degree the experience of making a piece to that of viewing it, I aspire to make work that offers the opportunity for this to happen. As the experience of the passage of time is a common denominator amongst people, evidence of time spent reminds us of our mortality and the present moment.
